The Colonist Report Africa (TCRAfrica) is registered in Nigeria as The Colonist Africa Limited. We are a data-driven, independent investigative media outlet uncovering under-reported but critical environmental, climate, and energy stories across Africa.
We spotlight past and present events that continue to impact communities, holding those in power accountable. While reporting on issues across our core focus areas, we also highlight the local heroes making meaningful change throughout the continent.
Our key coverage areas include forests, oceans, land rights, and science-based environmental research. We monitor activities at sea and in ports, amplifying the voices of under-represented and remote communities. We go beyond press releases and official narratives, relying on verified data and evidence-based reporting to tell the full story.
TCRAfrica maintains an independent ownership structure, ensuring full editorial freedom from political influence within or outside Africa. We are committed to balanced reporting and representing all sides of every issue.
TCRAfrica was founded by Elfredah Kevin-Alerechi, a Nigerian investigative journalist who has exposed dozens of environmental crimes committed by multinational companies in Africa. She also founded The Colonist Report UK, registered in the United Kingdom. Elfredah has led cross-border investigative teams in Europe and Africa and founded The Colonist Report as a broader platform to spotlight the urgent need for community-led, data-informed storytelling. Driven by the lack of media presence in remote, affected communities, Elfredah launched TCRAfrica to give local issues the global attention they deserve.
To advance our mission through the ethical use of technology, we established JournoTECH, the tech department of The Colonist Report Africa. JournoTECH powers our use of artificial intelligence, data tools, and emerging digital platforms to enhance storytelling, audience engagement, and access to verified information. It also trains journalists, educators, and local communities across Africa to ethically use technology in addressing public interest issues.
In 2025, we launched our nonprofit foundation—Yenaluko Centre for Media Development Foundation—which is also registered in Nigeria. The Foundation serves as the community-focused arm of TCRAfrica, working to provide media literacy, tech access, and storytelling tools to marginalized groups, particularly women, youth, and people with disabilities in underserved rural areas.
At TCRAfrica, our team follows the highest standards of journalism ethics. We only use undercover reporting in cases where there is a clear public interest. We are committed to factual accuracy, and when we make errors, we correct them transparently.
Our vision is an Africa free from the environmental degradation caused by human actions and marked by sustainable energy and climate solutions.
