About Us

The Colonist International Ltd. is the publisher of The Colonist Report (TCR), registered in the United Kingdom with registration number 15222317. TCR is an independent, data-driven media outlet that investigates and reports on important environmental, climate, and energy stories in developing nations that are often under-reported.

We spotlight past and present events that are still affecting people and hold those in power accountable. While reporting these issues around our focus areas, we will not forget to spotlight the heroes making great changes to the nation.

Our coverage areas include forests, oceans, land rights, and science-based research. We monitor activities at sea and in ports, giving voice to underrepresented communities in developing countries. We will go beyond press releases to bring true stories and use verified data to report stories.

Our independent ownership structure renders us utterly immune to political influence within and outside Africa. We value covering all sides of the story and giving equal weight to all perspectives.

TCR was founded by Elfredah Kevin-Alerechi, a Nigerian independent journalist who has exposed dozens of environmental crimes caused by multinational companies in Africa.

She has led teams in Europe and Africa to expose cross-border crimes in Africa. With the unending environmental crimes happening in remote areas of developing nations, Elfredah felt there were more that needed to be reported, which is why TCR is particularly interested in focusing on local stories. Elfredah also founded The Colonist Report Africa.

In addition to TCR, Elfredah founded JournoTECH, an initiative dedicated to empowering journalists and marginalized communities through technology, particularly AI tools. JournoTECH provides training to journalists, educators, and local communities, helping them enhance their work, reduce workloads, and use AI in their reporting. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide by equipping people in underserved regions with tech skills to address environmental and social issues.

Furthermore, The Yenaluko Centre for Media Development Foundation (Yenaluko Foundation) is part of JournoTECH. It focuses on providing humanitarian support, such as training women and marginalized groups, alongside initiatives aimed at increasing media literacy and promoting tech education in underserved communities. The foundation works alongside JournoTECH to help empower local communities, with a strong focus on creating opportunities for people to learn and grow.

At TCR, our reporters and freelancers adhere to the best practices and ethics of journalism. We will only go undercover to get stories where there is public interest. We will ensure our reports are accurate, and when we notice an error, we will quickly correct it and indicate the changes made.

Our goal is to empower local journalists from developing nations and see the countries of our dreams free of environmental degradation caused by human activities, which result in climate and energy crises.

Any issue, such as a complaint or misbehavior of our reporters, should be reported to our managing editor through email, elfredahalerechi@thecolonistreport.com, to enable us to investigate further and decide on the appropriate action to take.

We are open to collaborating with independent media organizations within and outside developing nations, and our stories can only be republished when consent has been approved by the management of TCR.
